Upper Chatani is a village of Lupung Panchayat of Silli block in Ranchi district with approx 450 households and consisting the population of 2262 with male 1120 and female 1142 respectively.

Every farmers of this village has been facing the problem of irrigation in the production of their crops. Every farmers are fully dependent on the Monsoon. During the kharif (wet) season, farmers main crop is Paddy; their next crop consists of seasonal vegetables, oilseeds, and pulses. Most farmers in the village are either marginal, having less than 1 hectare of farmland, or small, with a farm size of 1-2 hectares.

Smt. Manju Devi is a small lady farmer resides in the village of Upper Chatani and having the land ownership of 1 acre of land. She is sincere, hard laborious, honest and highly committed to her work. Due to lack of irrigation and technical facility, she was unable to utilize her land for generating her income. Our organization selected her as a beneficiaries for the project of National Horticulture Mission, Ranchi, Jharkhand for the cultivation of Turmeric in the year 20010-11. We have finalized the agreement with Smt. Manju Devi for covering her 2 acres of land in the year 2010-11 for the cultivation of Turmeric.

We have provided her every type of technical and physical support by the active cooperation and participation of officers of NHM, Jharkhand. The officer of NHM and agricultural specialist has supported us and our farmer time to time. As we have already mentioned, that she is sincere, hard laborious, honest and highly committed to her work. Due to her hard labour, commitment and sincerity, she is successful to produce 7000 KG (70 Qunt.) of Turmeric in the year 2010-01. She sold it @ Rs. 40/- per kg. and surprisingly done the turnover of Rs. 2,80,000 and secured her and her family livelihood.

At present, she has already involved in some other schemes of National Horticulture Mission, Ranchi, Jharkhand with active support of our organization.
